Press-fit terminals are pins that are pressed into the through-holes of a circuit board and held in place by the spring properties of the terminal shape. Typically, electrical connections are maintained by soldering or SMT mounting combined with reflow processing, but press-fit terminals are held solely by their restoring force, enabling significant reductions in manufacturing costs such as reflow equipment costs and electricity, and also contributing to environmental load reduction.
Press-fit terminals have been used in consumer electronics such as computers for a long time, and recently their use in automotive electronics components in Europe and the US has been increasing, and further adoption worldwide is expected.
There are two types of press-fit terminals: terminals processed from metal wire and terminals processed from metal strip. Due to the required spring properties of the press-fit part at the terminal tip, materials such as phosphor bronze are used. The Finecs Group can handle both types. Finecs Vietnam mainly provides press-fit terminals from press processing. We use 30 to 60-ton press machines for press processing. Currently, we recommend the Needle Eye shape for press-fit terminals. If customers have other press-fit terminal shapes or specifications, we will confirm the feasibility separately.
